| While I was working at Tyco Toys (later to become Mattel, Mt. Laurel) the design department went through a phase of decoration colors for the Tyco R/C Radio Controlled Cars that used fluorescent colors on dark paint jobs. The finished designs really screamed off of the cars and seriously added to the “eye candy” level. So with fluorescent colors on my mind, I mocked up a color study of positive and negative, high-contrast illustrations with fluorescent colors. I showed it to a friend who has a silk screen business and we decided to make a small run of silk screened prints, or “serigraphs.” This was somewhere around ‘97 or ‘98 before I had this website. Then I moved in ‘99 and was down-sized from Mattel Mt. Laurel in 2001. (they have since completely closed) So between building 5 websites, an eBay store, doing my Vette Magazine and Kit Car magazine articles, I wasn’t thinking much about the silk screen prints I had made. Actually, I had completely forgotten about them. I was moving some things around recently and found the two pieces shown above that I had put into poster frames. I also found a large envelope with a few prints inside. I found 24 prints of the 1966 A/Production Roadster and 4 prints of the 1963 A/Production Split Window Coupe. The actual prints are oversized and were trimmed to fit into the 20” x 24” poster frames shown above. I’ll admit that they are a little bit unusual. I always thought the ‘63 to ‘67 Corvettes were really tough looking in racing gear . The contrasting fluorescent inks and the color pattern made for an interesting look. |
